Shelfari

So .... what is that widget over on the right side of my blog?  That would be my Shelfari bookshelf.   By scrolling through it (use the "next" button), you can see what I am currently reading, have recently read, and what I'm planning to read.   There's no particular order.     Simply drag your cursor over the book image and you can see my reviews and tags.   Most of the books are ones I read this summer; some are among the books I read during the 2011-2012 school year, and others precede that.   There's a mix of fiction and nonfiction, and much of the fiction is YA/teen-oriented.

I update my Shelfari page - which in turn updates the widget on my blog page - as I finish books or add new "to read" books in the queue.  Shelfari is also nice in that you can "follow" other readers - the site is a social media tool for readers.   (There are other sites like Goodreads and LibraryThing, and while I plan to check out and maybe create a Goodreads account - there's an app to support it - this is the site I currently use.)

I'll be adding books on a regular basis.  Let's face it, one of the perks of being a librarian is that you're expected to read.  So enjoy perusing my bookshelf, and I always look forward to recommendations and comments about books.

You can also follow my Shelfari bookshelf directly by going to http://www.shelfari.com/kstarr/shelf    If you also have a shelf, or if you create your own account, I can follow you as well.

Salutations!

My name is not Charlotte and I don't know any talking porcine types, but I love books, libraries, and teenagers.    I have three teens / pre-teens of my own, and I enjoy working with middle school students in the library at OL Slaton in Lubbock, Texas.   Literacy - both of the traditional and technological varieties - are critical in our school and in our world, and I try to encourage and support the students and staff on our campus in order to achieve even better results.   There is a book out there for everyone - sometimes it just takes a little trial and error to match up the reader with the book.

This venue will be an opportunity to share with students and friends what I've read and learned and what I recommend.

Happy reading, y'all!
